Located at 39169 Cedar Blvd, Newark, CA 94560, Hu Din Ji Shanghai Bistro operates as a shanghainese serving Newark in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Newark; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 am–3 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (510) 795-2799. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is hudinjishanghaibistro.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 522 reviews, which is a strong result for a shanghainese in Newark and suggests consistent service.
Newark is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Newark follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

We were out hiking and looking for a solid lunch spot, and we were craving that perfect combo of hot soup and a solid main. This place totally delivered! The Shengjianbao are absolute perfection—crunchy on the bottom, super soft on top, and literally bursting with savory soup. Pair them with their duck soup, and you're in heaven. The broth is so incredibly rich and flavorful! Bonus points: they also serve green bean soup and sour plum drink, which were amazing for cooling down. Super satisfying meal, will definitely be back! 😋😋

This is no where near the old Shanghai bistro. I believe this restaurant has switched hands. The name used to be 李一季. The scallion oil noodles was tasteless and has no more pork but just one tea egg. It used to have bigger portion and cheaper too. Well I get the inflation part, but the presentation is too bad, it doesn’t worth $10.99. Not going to come back.

Overall the food is fantastic here. Pan fried pork buns and Shanghai-style stir-fried eel are very authentic and highly recommended. Minor thing is that it was a bit under-staffed when I arrived at around 2pm, which was not at peak hour. I had to wait 5 minutes for the desk to be cleaned and for me to get seated and another 5 minutes or so before being able to start ordering.

Nice Shanghai style food. We enjoyed the duck blood glass noodle soup. The salted duck was good but the portion is so small. Sheng jian and mini wonton was ok. The apple shaped bun looked very cute.

The environment is very cute and clean! The staff is very friendly and helpful! We were hesitating to choose one noodle, one staff came to us and recommended us the popular ones! I used Groupon, 13 dollars to purchase 30 dollars vouches. They have29.99 for 60 dollars one! Definitely get it! Food is really delicious! I got braised beef noodles and my bf got spicy chicken with numb pepper flavor noodles. The beef tastes herbal which I love so much! Their spicy numb chicken tastes great too!!!!!!! It surpassed my expectations!!!!!!!! Great meal and experiences!!!!!!!
